News Roundup: Coal Mobilization Called, Bicyclists Like Nudity, Argentina Does it Horizontally

A mass mobilization called Appalachia Rising was announced yesterday. From the website: “We invite all who share our vision to join with us on September 27, 2010 in our nation’s capitol for an end to mountaintop removal, surface mining, and a renewed vision of Appalachia”

It may or may not be important to note that World Naked Bike Ride was last Saturday. Although we at the Journal missed it, 200 bikers in NYC didn’t, nor did over 1,100 bicyclists in London, England. For more, see this website.

Here is a great recent article on the Argentinean environmental movement — specifically, the movement against a pulp mill in bordering Uruguay. Argentinians have maintained a roadblock on the major highway to and from Uruguay, and staged marches across the bridge consisting of over 100,000 people. The movement is maintained by an assembly system, which is completely horizontal.
