Political Prisoners of Allied Struggles

There are over a hundred political prisoners and prisoners of war held in the US, and many more politicized prisoners.  The following are some of those prisoners from struggles that are allied with the Earth First! movement.  See the resources, particularly the Anarchist Black Cross and the Jericho Movement, for further information and contacts for those not listed on this site.

Brighton ABC sums up useful information and suggestions for writing to prisoners.  In addition to the surveillance mail to prisoners receive, the postal service may also be monitoring mail of people on the outside.

ANTI-CAPITALIST PRISONERS:

Cleveland 4: Accused of plotting a series of bombings, including an area bridge.  However, the real story is that the FBI, working with an informant, created the scheme, produced the explosives, and coerced these four into participating.

free_nato5NATO 5Targeted by two undercover Chicago cops for preemptive, politically motivated arrests prior to the NATO summit and charged with planning to, “destroy police cars and attack four Chicago Police district stations with destructive devices,” in an effort to undermine the police response to planned activist actions.  Now accepting donations.

G20 Activists:

Eva Botten C/O Vanier Centre for Women, 655 Martin Street, Milton, Ontario L9T 5E6, Canada.  Serving 10 months (until 01-2014) for six counts of Damage over $5,000, and one last count for using a disguise.

ANTI-FASCIST PRISONERS:

TP5Tinley Park 5: The Tinley Park 5 were part of Anti Racist Action (ARA) and the local arm, the Hoosier Anti Racist Movement (H.A.R.M).  On May 19, 2012 they were arrested in Tinley Park for allegedly assaulting white-supremacist organizers.  They accepted a non-cooperating plea bargain in which they each plead guilty to three felony counts of Armed Violence in exchange for “lenient” sentences and the guarantee of ‘day-for-day’ good behavior.

Jason Hammondout on bail.  Arrested a year after the others, maintaining his innocence and collecting donations for legal expenses.

Alex Stuck #M34020, 2600 N. Brinton Avenue, Dixon, IL 61021, USA.  Serving 3.5 years (until 02-11-2014).  Birthday: December 19, 1984

Cody Sutherlin #M34021, Robinson Correctional Center, 13423 East 1150th Avenue, Robinson, IL 62454, USA.  Serving 5 years (until 11-11-2014).  Birthday: December 2, 1988

Dylan Sutherlin #M34022, P.O. Box 7711, Centralia, IL 62801, USA.  Serving 5 years (until 11-11-2014).  Birthday: March 3, 1992

Jason Sutherlin #M34023, 100 Hillcrest Road, East Moline, IL 61244, USA.  Serving 6 years (until 05-11-2015).  Birthday: March 17, 1979

John Tucker #M34024, P.O. Box 549, Lincoln, IL 62656, USA.  Serving 3.5 years (until 02-11-2014).  Birthday: March 20, 1986

International:

antifa_globeAnton Abusaidovich Fatulayev 12.10.1990, ul. Semashko dom 1, FKU IK-5, 243240 Bryanskaya oblast, Russia.  Anton was sentenced to 4 years and two months for two incidents, one allegedly involving a fight with seven far-right football hooligans of Spartak Moscow in Autumn 2010, during which Anton was said to have wounded one of the football hooligans’ hand with a knife. The second on May 1st 2010 involved a group of fascists attacking people returning from an anarchist and anti-fascist Mayday rally. Anton became involved in defending his stabbed comrades, by knocking one of the fascists out. For this he was convicted of battery with “hooligan intent.”

Alexey Gaskarov: Can receive mail via the volunteer organization RosUznik’s online form.  Alexey is a long-time anti-fascist and environmental activist.  He is currently being charged with “involvement in riots” and “use of violence against authorities.”  Birthday: June 18

Igor Olegovich Kharchenko FKU SIZO-2 UFSIN Rossii po g. Moskve, ul. Novoslobodskaya d. 45, 127055 Moskva, Russia.  Igor is accused of having participated in a fight on the July 4, 2010, during which the audience of a concert dispersed a band of nationalists, who had come in order to kill and maim concert guests. Igor, however, did not take part in the fight – plenty of those present at the concert have given testimony, that during the fight Igor was performing in the concert.

Irina Antonovna Lipskaya 1988 g.r, ul. Shosseynaya, 92, SIZO-6 “Pechatniki”, k.308, 109383 Moskva, Russia.  Accused of attacking guests of a Nazi concert with rubber bullets and flares.

Jock PalfreemanSofia Central Prison, 21 General Stoletov Boulevard, Sofia 1309, Bulgaria.  Serving 20 years (until 2028) in Sofia/Bulgaria for defending two Roma boys from a racist mob. Jock has helped start Bulgaria’s first prisoner’s union, the Bulgarian Prisoners’ Association, and recently had his transfer request to his home country of Australia denied. Alexey Sutuga Vladimirovich FKU SIZO-2 UFSIN Rossii po g. Moskve ul. Novoslobodskaya d. 45 127055, Moskva, Russia.  Alexey Sutuga has been a member of Autonomous Action since the early 2000s.  In 2007, he joined the ecological protest camp against uranium enrichment in city of Angarsk in Siberia.  He is accused of defending concert-goers at the Moscow club “Vozdukh” from nationalists on December 17, 2011.

Alyon Mikhaylovich Volikov 1989 g.r., ul. Novoslobodksaya dom 45, FKU SIZO-2 UFSIN Rossii po g. Moskve, 127055 Moskva, Russia Alyon, an anarchist and anti-fascist, is the third person to be arrested and remanded in prison accused of defending concert-goers at the Moscow club “Vozdukh” from nationalists on December 17, 2011.

Tomasz Wiloszewski Zaklad Karny, Orzechowa 5, 98-200 Sieradz, Poland. Serving 15 years for accidentally killing a neo-nazi whilst defending himself.

HACKTIVIST PRISONERS:

we-are-anonymousBarrett Brown currently out on bail.  A journalist facing life in prison for merely linking to information from the Anonymous Stratfor release.

Jeremy Hammond #18729-424, Metropolitan Correctional Center, 150 Park Row, New York, NY, 10007, USA.  Jeremy plead guilty to conspiracy to use his computer savvy to attack the website of Strategic Forecasting (Stratfor) as well as other conservative groups and State operators. He is facing roughly 10 years in prison and will be sentenced on September 6th, 2013.  Birthday: January 8

International:

Christopher “Nerdo” Weatherhead A7757CV, HMP Brixton, Jebb Avenue, Brixton, London SW2 5XF.  Sentenced to 18 months in December of 2012 for Anonymous-initiated distributed denial of services attack against Paypal, causing supposed losses of over 5 million USD, in retribution for them canceling the fundraising account for WikiLeaks’ Julian Assange.

INDIGENOUS RESISTANCE PRISONERS:

Byron Shane “Oso Blanco” Chubbock #079-09051, USP Florence – High, P.O. Box 7000, Florence, CO, 81226, USA.  Serving 80 years (until 1-14-2071) for aggravated assault of federal agents, escape and bank robbery. Oso Blanco funneled money he stole from banks in the US to the Zapatista Army of National Liberation in Mexico. Birthday: February 26, 1967

Leonard Peltier #89637-132, USP Coleman I, US Penitentiary, P.O. Box 1033, Coleman, FL, 33521, USA. American Indian Movement activist serving life after being framed for murdering two FBI agents during the 1975 Pine Ridge siege.  Support the executive clemency campaign underway.  Birthday: September 12, 1944

MOVE PRISONERS:

MOVE8MOVE is an eco-revolutionary group for black liberation and in defense of all life. There are currently eight MOVE activists in prison each serving 100 years after been framed for the murder of a cop while their house was being raided in 1978. The 9th defendant, Merle Africa, died in prison in 1998. Parole hearings for the rest of the MOVE 9 now occur roughly yearly.  Your support can help them get released on parole

Mumia Abu Jamal, (AM8335), SCI Mahanoy, 301 Morea Rd., Frackville, PA 17932, USA.  In 1981, Mumia, former Black Panther and vocal supporter of MOVE, was framed for the murder of a cop.  He was originally sentenced to death but is currently held in solitary confinement.  Birthday: April 24, 1954

POLITICIZED PRISONERS:

Politicized prisoners are those who have become political while in prison and are now working against oppression, for self-determination. There are many politicized prisoners in our country. This is only a short list of those who Earth First! folks are in some form of contact with.

Coyote Sheff #55671, P.O. Box 1989, Ely, NV 89301-1989, USA. He has written for radical and anarchist publications, including a first-hand account of a prison riot at Ely State Prison. Many of Coyote’s writings can be found on his blog, Coyote Calling.

Ryan Stewart #525487, Saginaw Correctional Facility, 9625 Pierce Rd., Freeland, MI 48623, USA. Serving a 5 year sentence until 12-11-2020 (maximum release date); wrote to the EF! Journal looking for support in supporting ecological struggles from inside.  Birthday: April 18, 1989

Sean Swain #243205, Mansfield Corrections Institution, P.O. Box 788, Mansfield, OH, 44901, USA. Serving a life sentence for the self-defense killing of a court official’s relative who broke into Sean’s home and threatened his life.  An anarchist/indigenous prisoner and former union organizer fighting his conviction by citing the US government’s illegal occupation of native land, also by running for governor of Ohio from prison as a Zapatista candidate.  His next parole hearing is in 2016.  Birthday: September 12, 1969

Jerome White-Bey #37479, 5A-118, ERDCC, 2727 Highway K, Bonne Terre, MO, 63628, USA. Jerome is an anarchist prison activist who set up the Missouri Prison Labor Union to fight slave labor in prisons.  Birthday: December 28
